About Brand New
Brand New lists the books and albums that came out in the last week and those due over the next three months, by genre. The lists are rebuilt automatically every morning, UK time.
It's run by Matt, who writes the Matt Rarely Writes blog. What this site earns helps keep the blog free of ads.
What this site does, and what it doesn't
Brand New is for finding out what's new and what's coming soon, and for giving you a quick way to look for it at different shops. That's all it tries to do.
- It isn't a price comparison site. It doesn't show prices, and it can't tell you where something is cheapest.
- It can't tell you who sells it or has it in stock. The site doesn't check any shop, so it doesn't know whether a shop sells a particular book or album, or has it in stock. Every link is a starting point, not a promise.
- Most links open a search. Album links, ebook and audiobook links (including Kindle and Audible), and links for books that aren't UK editions open a search on the shop's own site for the title and author or artist. Those searches may find other editions, or nothing at all. For UK editions of books, the Amazon and bookshop links go straight to the book's page, but even then the shop may not have it.
- Not every book comes in every format. Many books never come out as ebooks or audiobooks, or they arrive later, and the site can't tell which.
- Dates change, and the lists aren't complete. Release dates move, especially for books, and the lists are built from public data that misses some releases. Check the date with the shop before you order.
How the Amazon links work
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
The "on Amazon UK" buttons, and the "Kindle" and "Audible" links under them, are affiliate links. An affiliate link is an ordinary link to a shop with a code added to it, so the shop knows which website sent you. Mine is matsbasblo-21, and you'll see it at the end of the Amazon address as tag=matsbasblo-21.
If you follow one of those links and then buy something, Amazon pays me a small commission, a percentage of the price, as thanks for sending you. It generally counts anything you buy within 24 hours of clicking, not only the item you clicked on.
You don't pay a penny more. The price is exactly the same as if you'd gone to Amazon yourself: the commission comes out of Amazon's share, not your pocket. Amazon doesn't tell me who you are; I only see totals, such as which items were ordered through the site.
You never have to use them. If you'd rather, search Amazon yourself, or buy from your local bookshop or record shop. The "More on Google Books" links are not affiliate links, and nobody pays to appear on this site.
Other shops
Not everyone wants to use Amazon, so every book also has an "Other shops" button, and every album a "Listen & buy" button.
- Books: Waterstones, Bookshop.org, Foyles, Blackwell's and Hive.
- Ebooks and audiobooks: Kobo, Google Play Books and Spotify. Not every book has an ebook or audiobook, so these open a search, as do the Kindle and Audible links.
- Streaming: albums have a "Listen & buy" button with Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, Amazon Music, Deezer and Bandcamp. These open a search for the album, which may find nothing until it's released.
- Albums: HMV, Rough Trade, Norman Records, Banquet Records and Resident. These open a search on the shop's site, as the album links to Amazon UK do.
These are not affiliate links: I don't earn anything when you use them, and none of these shops has paid to be listed. They're there because it's your choice where you buy.

Where the data comes from
- Albums: the ListenBrainz fresh releases feed, ranked by how many ListenBrainz listeners each artist has, with genres from MusicBrainz. MusicBrainz and ListenBrainz data is released under CC0 by the MetaBrainz Foundation.
- Album covers: the Cover Art Archive.
- Books and book covers: the Google Books API.
Privacy
This site doesn't use cookies, analytics or adverts. If you switch between light and dark mode, your choice is remembered in your own browser and never sent anywhere. Covers are loaded from the Cover Art Archive and Google, so, as with any website, those services can see your IP address. Once you click through to Amazon, Google Books or another shop, that site's own privacy policy applies. The "Support me" button loads Ko-fi's donation form only when you click it; from then on, Ko-fi's privacy policy applies to that form.
